Valtice & Surprise Party

May 22, 2012 - Valtice and a Surprise Party

Today Dr. Clark, Ann, Caleb and myself took a field trip of our own  to another UNESCO World Heritage site.  But first, we had to find our way there.  We took a train to Breclav and then had to take another train to Valtice.  It was a bit confusing when we arrived, not sure where we were going but that's the fun of it!

This sign was in Breclav showing us the place where we were heading.

This was some random thing in Breclav ... had to!

When we got to Vatice, we stopped at this small place and shared some pizza and figured out that we were only going to be able to get to Valtice because Lednice was a 5km bike ride or walk away.

The city was pretty and quiet, we found the castle grounds easily and
were able to wander without time being a factor.
Guess what Caleb found?

Fun with fountains!

Should I ring it? Hmmmmm

The grounds were beautiful, we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring them.

And riding statues.

And posing like the statues.

Dr. Clark (above) enjoying the day.

So there was supposed to be a Museum of Torture on the grounds.
We found it ... it was closed. Bummer.

We also found the old wall.

Along the way, we also found Hell, literally!

This is what the inside of Hell looks like.

Group picture!

We also went inside a church near the palace.
Breathtaking.

After all of our adventuring, we needing a little dessert break.
We found a restaurant with some outdoor seating and enjoyed some desserts and drinks.

After we got done eating, we noticed the sky was during very dark and decided we needed to hurry back to the train stop.  We didn't make it before we got absolutely soaked ... all the way to our underwear!

What a great adventure!

To my surprise, when we returned, my flat was filled with people from our group.
They were putting together a birthday surprise dinner for me (my birthday was the next day)!
It was fantastically fun ... I did have to save my own dinner though...they burned the rice. haha
We had turned into a real family along the way.

When I think of this day, I smile.
