Paris, Day 3

May 28, 2012 ... Paris, Day 3

Elin and Yolima's flight was leaving that day but they didn't want to risk being late, so they slept in and didn't join us as we went back to the Eiffel Tower.

1st stop of the day ... Eiffel Tower

So we were trying to go up the Eiffel Tower on our third day and due to lines we got there over an hour before they opened and we still had to wait almost two hours before going up.  As we were waiting Ann, with the assistance of Rick Steves, gave us so vital information for the day.

This is the elevator that will take us up the legs of the Eiffel Tower.

Going up?

I purchased the ticket that would take me all the way to the very top of the Eiffel Tower.
I was able to see Paris for miles around.

At the top!

I thought this was pretty cool, around the top of the tower they had structures from all over the world and their heights ... the dotted line is how tall the Eiffel Tower is.

On the first deck of the Eiffel Tower
This is the wheel that the elevator runs off of that takes you up the legs of the Eiffel Tower.

I had to get in this picture for perspective ... these statues were huge!

Next stop ... The Lourve

Cupid's Kiss

Venus de Milo

I could have looked at her all day, outstanding.

Random statues

Julius Cesar

Roman Bathtub

Winged Victory ... I will never walk by the one in the Fine Arts Building and look at it the same again.
The real one is gigantic!

This room held the French crown jewels.

This room seemed to go forever!

Getting up to the Mona Lisa was a bit of a challenge ... it was extremely crowded.
I got my picture though!

Above is the largest canvas in The Lourve.

Some of Michelangelo's works.

I loved these last ones.

This was underneath one of the pyramids

I'm so glad I found this and was able to get the picture.
If you are a fan of The DaVinci Code, you will know what this is!

Next stop ... Jim Morrison's grave
We made our way clear to the other side of Paris with very little time before the cemetery closed.

After making our way through the cemetery, we finally found it.  It even had started to rain on us.
They had the area around his grave fenced off, I'm guessing to keep people off of his grave.

Ann was in heaven!

I thought this was amazing, we had just seen this picture at the Lourve earlier in the day!

Earlier in the day before going to The Lourve, we had purchased tickets to do a river ride.
The evening was beautiful and we sat on the outside of the boat and we had our tour at sunset.

Nortre Dame

This is where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned and eventually beheaded.

The Eiffel Tower isn't that big hehe

This was our route ... the white line.

After our ride, I was seriously wanting some nachos but where could we find them?
Hard Rock Cafe!!!  It was two blocks from our hostel.

After dinner, Andrew just had to stop at McDonald's and get a cheeseburger.
He was a bit disappointed that it tasted exactly the same as back in the states.

Another day in Paris complete!  One of the funnier moments of the day was when I was waiting at a cafe for Ann and Andrew while they went to find a pharmacy.  A couple who was sitting behind me was wondering if I spoke enough English so I could take a picture of them, I turned around and said, yes I do!  We had a great conversation about traveling.  Any American that I met while traveling was nice and it was like finding a bit of home as we were so far away from home.
