May 10, 2012 - Bouzov Castle
Today we had a normal day of classes in the morning starting with Czech language class, followed by a speaker and then Dr. Clark's videos. Each day after the videos, Dr. Clark reads a summary of what was discussed in the videos. This day, he happened to have stepped out of our classroom when the video was finished ... Andrew stepped in and read the recap for us. Dr. Clark walked in when he was doing this ... it was just one of those funny moments that stands out!
That afternoon after lunch, we took a field trip to Bouzov Castle. Not knowing if we were going to see another palace or what ... I think we were getting a bit palaced out at this point. It was a pleasant surprise when we walked up to Bouzov. It was out in the country on it's own grounds and it was a beautiful day.
Jed seems a bit excited.
As we walked up and saw the first view of the castle, I was doing a little happy dance because it looks like what I picture in my mind when I think castle.
Dr. Clark and Martin getting our tickets to go in.
YAY! It looks like a Castle!!!!!
The front doors even had a drop down gate. There was a "moat" too!
The big door wasn't opened for us but a little door built into the big door was.
We weren't sure if a certain someone was going to make it through.
The interior was beautiful, not in a way that was overly extravagant like most of the places we had been to but more in the way that it was nice but not necessarily filled with riches.
The picture above is a white lady, the supposed ghost of the castle.
White Ladies are known throughout the world as ghosts of women who were betrayed in some way.
Evan is standing next to a heater ... these are found in most rooms to keep the castle warm.
Our tour guide did not speak English, so Martin interpreted for us throughout our tour.
Elin's sense of fashion strikes again! LOL!
This is the view from the castle. The castle was originally a watch tower to watch over trade routes.
The castle also went through many renovations before it ended up as we saw it.
This was inside the mini chapel on the grounds.
This was the well on the grounds, the detail was fantastic!
Isn't it beautiful? I think I need one just like it!
Looking into the well.
I really enjoyed this field trip. This place just hit home with me.
I would definitely return to visit here, I am glad this was on our trip.
