April 21, 2012 - Cinque Terre, Day 3
It was great and the owner was awesome!
Our last meal in the Cinque Terre was at this little Beach Bar.
What did I have? Pesto Bruchetta ... fabulous!
The five of us enjoying the day on the beach!
The view was fantastic.
Laura and Ann (below) getting an up close view of the water.
We left La Spezia on a train to Milan that afternoon. We had tickets to the Skrillex concert that night but no place to stay since it was fashion week in Milan, we did not think that would be a problem since the concert was at 11:30 that night. We opted to get ready in the train station restroom and then check our bags in.
Next we had to figure out how to get out to the concert. We knew it was clear on the outside edge of Milan but we weren't sure how we were going to do it. We did finally find someone who spoke English and found out we had to take the metro to the end of the line and then get on a bus.
We did make it out there but we never thought we would get off the subway, I think it was over 20 stops until we got to the end. Then we had to find the bus stop to get us the rest of the way. We did find it but we weren't sure if we were on the right one until we heard a bunch of Italians saying Skrillex, it was too funny! After the bus ride, we walked about 8 blocks and finally made it! We somehow always find our way, I say we were all seasoned travelers at this point in the trip!
Skrillex Concert
We made it! Caleb was just a tiny bit excited!
The venue was absolutely packed!!! The concert was supposed to start at 11:30pm but there were "openers" and Skrillex did not get on stage until 1:30am! It was insane!
Overall, it was a fantastic concert. We even met other Americans there, a group of Air Force guys that were stationed in Italy. After it was over we had a crazy time of getting back to the train station since it was 5am. Once we arrived at the train station, we realized the bathrooms were shut down for the night (not good) and there was a potential that we would not find a train to Vienna, Austria where we had a bus to take us to Brno, then Olomouc...there was a rail strike that day.
The ticket office opened up at 7am and we were able to find a train to take us to Vienna, it was an overnight train and we payed dearly for that but it did not leave until 9:00 that night!!! We had to spend the next 14 hours in the Milan train station after being there 2 hours already.
It was cold and there was no place to sleep except the hard, cold, metal benches. We made the most of it. As you can see below, we all tried to catch some sleep. I only slept about 30 minutes total while we were there, I just couldn't do it. Ann, Thea, and Laura all got some sleep though. Caleb and I stayed awake.
At lunch, one of the funniest things happened. Caleb, Laura, and I went to Burger King and Thea went to freshen up, Ann agreed to stay and watch our items. While we were gone, some guy walked by and threw some change on the plastic bag from our snacks earlier in the day. He thought Ann was homeless!!!
Eventually we found a nice place to cozy up for the rest of our wait, it was a little cafe down on the lower level that had free wi-fi for us. The only very odd thing was all of the stupid pigeons everywhere, even in the food places. Caleb was a bit disturbed about that.
We did finally make our way back to Olomouc, we ended up missing a day of classes though but it was an incredible adventure. It took us a train, a tram, two buses, and another tram to get from Milan back to our home in Olomouc. An adventure to never forget!
