April 2, 2012 ... Lunch
Yep, another set of pictures with food. Seriously though, you cannot beat the food and the prices in Olomouc! Generally we went out for lunch after class each day and enjoyed the lunch specials.
My drink of choice ... Coke Light.
All this food in both of these pictures, about $5 US.
April 3, 2012 ... Torture and New Friends
Thea and our new friends from the Ukraine and Czech Republic.
Caleb and I with Paul who is from the Czech Republic.
Yolima and Caleb studying the interior of the restaurant we were at. It was called Torture and it was decorated in accordance to the theme. Very gruesome and torture-fantastic!
Included a person being hung and another person holding them up ... creepy!
Caleb, Thea, Yolima, and myself at Torture.
Our new friends.
April 5, 2012 ... Laura's Birthday
Laura's Birthday!!!
Laura was the first to get the famous chocolate cake made in the microwave with Nutella used for the frosting. We made it work and it was yummy!
Out to eat at The Crack to celebrate Laura's birthday. Gotta love Nepalese food.
We concluded the evening at the 15 Minute Club on Karaoke night. Someone had a great idea to sing Born in the USA by Springsteen but they were unaware of how very political the song really was until the lyrics were going across the screen. Probably one of the funniest moments on the trip, the horror on many of our group member's faces.
April 6, 2012 ... Mrs. Masin
This is probably one of my top favorite moments of my trip. We had a guest speaker named Mrs. Masin (sounds like Mashin). She is the older woman who is seated and the other woman was our speaker in the morning and she interpreted for Mrs. Masin as she told us the story of her life.
Mrs. Masin comes from a family with a very political past. Her story was powerful and inspiring. Not many take a stand for what they believe in to the point they will be imprisoned for it or have their parents fight for a cause and end up living their last days in prison or have two brothers who escaped the country to America to live free lives versus political persecution. She is a great woman and I hope she will share her story with more groups that come over.
